Background: The City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department is partnering with the Fort Worth chapter of Native Prairies Association of Texas (FW-NPAT) to restore Fort Worth Prairie habitat on the Oakmont Park hill overlooking the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. FW-NPAT team leaders received funding from Constellation Energy via a grant to the North Central Texas chapter of Native Plant Society of Texas.

Fort Worth Animal Care & Control Volunteer Program is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of animals in our shelter through compassionate care.  Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for every animal while actively engaging with the community to promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. Through education and outreach initiatives we strive to foster a culture of empathy and respect for all animals, ensuring a positive and impactful change both within our shelter and throughout Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Teen Court

Volunteers who have an interest in training teen attorneys are preferred to have training or experience in the judicial/legal field. Trainers will facilitate initial and on going training  for teen attorneys.  Trainers will also assist teen attorneys in preparing cases for hearings.  

**Adult volunteer opportunity**

The front desk clerk will be responsible for checking in participants, teen attorneys, jurors and adult volunteers. Front desk clerk will also check-out participants, ensure that they have all necessary paperwork and monitor participants in the waiting area.

Tribunals hearings consist of an adult facilitator and 3-6 member teen jury panel.  The participants pleads their case before the jury and the jury questions the participant.  The jury will decide the number of community service hours to be assigned.  Adult facilitators will maintain order during the hearing, encourage jury members to listen and ask questions, offer guidance when appropriate, complete teen court paperwork based on the outcome of the hearing.

Volunteers who have an interest in judging teen court hearings are preferred to have training or experience in the judicial/legal field.  Judges will preside over the teen court hearings providing guidance to teen attorneys and jurors.

Jurors must be 13-18 years old and currently enrolled in middle school or high school.  Jurors will listen to the facts of the case and make a determination on the number of community service hours each participant will receive.

Opportunities for juror are available each teen court session.

**Youth volunteer opportunity**

Teen Attorneys must be 13-18 years old and currently enrolled in middle school or high school.  Teen Attorneys are required to make at least a one semester commitment, fall (August-December), spring (January - April), summer (May-July).

Jury Monitor/ Floater/ Bailiff volunteers will monitor teen attorneys during case preparation, call cases for hearings, review teen court forms with participants following hearings, assign jurors and facilitate jury deliberation.

**Adult volunteer opportunity**

Youth may need assistance obtaining more Community Service hours. This position will assist youth in processing different surveys or worksheets and grading papers which may have reading material and questions for the youth to answer and complete, in order to receive full credit (typically 10 CS Hours) for community service hours on Teen Court Night.

Volunteer with a youth tennis program for children ages 5–12, assisting coaches with drills, teaching basic tennis skills, and helping create a fun and supportive environment for young players to learn the game.

Volunteers (ages 18 and older) are needed to help support the event. Opportunities include assisting with event setup and breakdown, serving food, helping with games and activities, and supporting event operations throughout the celebration.

Types of Foster Opportunities

Transport Fostering

Make a life-changing impact in just a short amount of time! This program supports pets selected for our out-of-state transport program, where they’re headed to areas with a greater demand for adoptable animals. Many of these pets already have adoptive families eagerly waiting for them! As a transport foster, you provide a temporary home, ensuring they’re healthy, happy, and ready for their journey. Your role is vital to the success of this incredible program, and it’s a rewarding way to save lives in a short-term commitment.

Traditional Fostering

Provide a safe, nurturing environment for shelter pets awaiting their forever homes. Traditional fosters care for pets of all ages, sizes, and needs. Whether it’s a shy dog needing socialization, a cat recovering from minor medical care, or a playful puppy waiting to grow strong enough for adoption, you’re giving them the gift of stability and love.

Puppies and Kittens, (Including Bottle Babies)

Help our youngest and most vulnerable residents! Caring for puppies and kittens, especially bottle-fed babies, is a rewarding experience. These tiny lives depend on foster homes for round-the-clock care, socialization, and a safe place to grow.

Shelter Locations:

We are looking for volunteers to help make our Summer Kick-off Party fun and memorable for everyone! This is a great way to give back, connect with the community, and be part of a great team.  No experience needed - just a positive attitude and willingness to help! 

Help be a volunteer with our Spring Break kids you will be assigned a Camp leader to help them with the kids Arts and crafts, Gym activities, and many more excited adventures. 

We are looking for volunteers to manage our Spring Cleaning Swap Meet. See the description for the event below:

Clear out your closets and join us for our Spring-Cleaning Swap Meet. Bring something, take something. Think of it as a garage sale, but everything is free! All you have to do is make a contribution. Bring your new or gently used home decor, appliances, apparel, accessories, and more.

As a volunteer, you would assist with set up and tear down of the event; greet community members and count their items; and organize items into the correct section.

The Fitness Instructor leads engaging and inclusive exercise classes that promote health, wellness, and confidence within the community. This volunteer creates a positive and motivating environment while guiding participants through safe and effective workouts.

Responsibilities may include:

Leading group fitness classes such as dance, Zumba-style workouts, strength training, or other exercise sessions

Demonstrating proper form and technique to help participants exercise safely

Encouraging and motivating participants of different fitness levels

Planning simple, fun, and effective workout routines

Creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all participants

Communicating with staff about class needs, schedules, and equipment

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys fitness, has a passion for helping others stay active, and can bring energy and positivity to group exercise sessions.

The Center Hero helps care for and maintain our space so it remains welcoming, organized, and functional for everyone who visits. This volunteer supports light maintenance tasks, creative improvement projects, and general organization around the center.

Responsibilities may include:

Assisting with basic maintenance tasks and minor repairs

Helping with craft or DIY projects that improve the space

Organizing supplies, storage areas, and shared spaces

Supporting simple beautification or decorating projects

Assisting staff with small facility-related tasks as needed

Helping keep the center clean, safe, and welcoming for the community

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with their hands, staying organized, and contributing creatively to a shared community space.

Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming Fall 2026 T-Ball season.

Season Dates: April 18 - May 9, 2026

Practice: Saturdays, April 18 - May 9, 2026 at Sycamore Park T-Ball fields @ 9 AM

Games: Saturdays, April 18-May 9, 2026 at Sycamore Park T-Ball fields @ 10 AM

Practices and games are once a week on Saturdays. The season lasts for five weeks and games are played at the Sycamore Park T-Ball Fields (2525 E. Rosedale Fort Worth, TX 76105).

IMPORTANT: Coaches are required to pass a background check (including CFW employees), complete coaches development courses, as well as, a Sex Offender search. Also, coaches are required to be at practices and games.   

Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming Spring 2026 Flag Football season.

Season Dates: March 28-May 9, 2026

Camp Date: Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Gateway Park

Game Dates: Saturdays, April 4-May 9, 2026 at Gateway Park

Practices are once a week, and games are on Saturdays, ranging from 9 AM - 2 PM. The season lasts for seven weeks and games are played at Gateway Park

IMPORTANT: Coaches are required to pass a background check (including CFW employees), complete coaches development courses, as well as, a Sex Offender search. Also, coaches are required to be at practices and games.   

Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming Summer 2026 Volleyball Season.

Season Dates: June 6 - July 25, 2026

Camp: Saturday, June 6, 2026

Games: Saturdays, June 13 - July 25, 2026 (No games on June 20th or July 4th)

Practices are once a week, and games are on Saturdays, ranging from 9 AM - 2 PM. The season lasts for seven weeks and games are played at both Sycamore Youth Athletic Center and Haws Athletic Center.

IMPORTANT: Coaches are required to pass a background check (including CFW employees), complete coaches development courses, as well as, a Sex Offender search. Also, coaches are required to be at practices and games.   

This is a group of Texas Wesleyan University students who assist with our After-School Program.

The Fort Worth Code Blue Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program provides additional eyes and ears to the Fort Worth Police Department by training citizen volunteers to observe and report criminal activity. Trained COPS volunteers are assigned radios and given vehicle signs before patrolling their neighborhoods in their own vehicles, walking, or riding their bicycles. Additionally, COPS members participate in on-going training and activities such as assisting with training new police recruits at the police academy and working directly with police officers during special details.

Court Ordered Volunteer/Community Service

Egg-stravaganza is a fun, fast-paced event designed for children of various age groups to hunt for eggs. Volunteers help by setting up designated hunt zones, guiding children to their assigned areas, monitoring for safety, restocking eggs if needed, and ensuring that every child has a positive and fair opportunity to participate.

Spring Break Out will bring together children ages 5–12 from four community centers for a fun-filled day of outdoor games, teamwork, and friendly competition. Volunteers help lead activity stations, explain rules, manage rotations, and create a safe, encouraging environment for all participants.

Earth Party 2026 – Dog Adoption Event

It’s Earth Party 2026, and we’re celebrating in the best way possible—by helping dogs find their people. We’re bringing adoptable pups out for a lively, community-packed event, and we need some foster superstars to join us.

This signup is for foster parents to register their foster dogs to attend the event. If your foster pup enjoys meeting new people, hanging out in a social setting, and showing off their charm, this is a great opportunity to help them shine.

Space is limited to keep the event comfortable and positive for all dogs and humans.

You are not approved to start court-ordered community service until you receive an approval letter from the City of Fort Worth staff. You must have the approval letter to begin community service at any City of Fort Worth community center. It is your responsibility to contact the community centers and coordinate if and when they have availability for community service.

Please monitor your assigned Site(s) monthly at the same time of day each month, for a one year commitment. For example: a possible monitoring schedule could be the first Sunday of each month at 10:00 am. Adherence to a consistent monitoring time is crucial because the physical and chemical parameters fluctuate over a 24-hour period. Monitoring takes approximately one to two hours per month per site *be sure to include your travel time in your total hours. 

Remember to check-out your assigned kit and return it within 3-4 days to ensure other citizen scientists also have access.

Your opportunity will vary in duties and assignments and limited opportunity working with kids registered in our programs. 

Highland Hills Community Center is seeking volunteers to assist with a community food distribution in partnership with Tarrant Area Food Bank. Volunteers will help bag food items and distribute them to members of the public in a welcoming and respectful manner. This opportunity is a great way to support local families, fight food insecurity, and make a direct impact in the community. Tasks may include assembling food bags, loading and unloading items, and handing out food to guests. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to help and a positive attitude.

The First Thursday of every month for Handley Meadowbrook, is our Senior Share food distribution program. We need your help to pack, distribute, and carry a free bag of groceries to all community members who come in.

General Cleaning of Facility, Special Event Set Up and Breakdown duties. This is a great opportunity for teens that need to complete Volunteer hours due to Citations or Court Mandated Orders. 

This is a volunteer opportunity for students in a college preparatory program in Middle/High school to obtain hours of service. You will be involved in a multitude of activities assisting with kids in our After School Program, light cleaning of the facility and some clerical duties and organizing supplies. Schedules are flexible throughout the week and on Saturdays.

Pass out School Supplies to Pre-K - College aged youth.

Celebrate and expose others the Arts programming in the Community.

Educate and Celebrate Juneteenth.

Spend time with our senior friends while they play table games, eating lunch, or participating in educational and fitness programs.

Engage with youth participants of the Handley Meadowbrook After School Program aged 5-13.  Duties may include gathering supplies, homework assistance, and leading activities such as games or arts and crafts.

We have a variety of youth sports that need coaches. The ages are 4-17 depending on the sport. We typically do 1 practice a week with games on Saturday mornings.

Look for fun, energetic individuals to teach or share your hobby of music, arts and crafts, sewing, etc... with our seniors and after schoolers. 

In need of individuals to help set up and or tear down tables and chairs for special events. Help with of cleaning  of center such as sweeping, mopping, and light restroom duties.

To engage with the After School Program in homework, arts and crafts, gym games, and help leaders clean up after.

Opportunity for youth to gain volunteer hours in our afterschool program helping with homework and other fun activities. Opportunity will also be open for our holiday break camps.
