Foster caregivers are an essential part of our mission to save lives at Fort Worth Animal Care and Control. By opening your home to a shelter pet, you provide them with the love and care they need to thrive outside of the shelter environment. From pets recovering from illness or injury to orphaned kittens and puppies, foster homes are the bridge between a challenging start and a happy ending.

We have fostering options for everyone! Whether you can commit to just a day or are ready to welcome a furry friend for longer, there’s a program that fits your lifestyle and helps our pets get one step closer to adoption.

Types of Foster Opportunities

Transport Fostering

Make a life-changing impact in just a short amount of time! This program supports pets selected for our out-of-state transport program, where they’re headed to areas with a greater demand for adoptable animals. Many of these pets already have adoptive families eagerly waiting for them! As a transport foster, you provide a temporary home, ensuring they’re healthy, happy, and ready for their journey. Your role is vital to the success of this incredible program, and it’s a rewarding way to save lives in a short-term commitment.

Traditional Fostering

Provide a safe, nurturing environment for shelter pets awaiting their forever homes. Traditional fosters care for pets of all ages, sizes, and needs. Whether it’s a shy dog needing socialization, a cat recovering from minor medical care, or a playful puppy waiting to grow strong enough for adoption, you’re giving them the gift of stability and love.

Puppies and Kittens, (Including Bottle Babies)

Help our youngest and most vulnerable residents! Caring for puppies and kittens, especially bottle-fed babies, is a rewarding experience. These tiny lives depend on foster homes for round-the-clock care, socialization, and a safe place to grow.

This class is for all R.A.C.E.S. members that need to renew their privileges or get their ID card for the first time.

Class begins at 09:00 Doors Open at 08:00.  Try to get there by 0800 so we can update your info and get a fresh picture.

Bring your dual band handheld radio if you have one

If you wish to join Fort Worth CERT, please register for this opportunity.  The CERT program requires volunteers to apply to join CERT followed by a background check.  Once you click register below, it will pop up a page that will ask a few questions.  After you answer, it will notify me that you are interested in joining Fort Worth CERT.  I will email you an application page for you to fill out and email back.  If you are accepted, the next step will be to pass a background check.  Upon the return of an approved background check, you will then be accepted into the program.

Every great change starts with someone who cares! That someone could be YOU! Volunteer sports coaches are needed for the upcoming Fall 2026 Tee Ball season!

Season Dates: April 18 - May 9, 2026

Practice: Saturdays, April 18 - May 9, 2026 at Sycamore Park Tee Ball fields @ 9 AM

Games: Saturdays, April 18-May 9, 2026 at Sycamore Park Tee Ball fields @ 10 AM

Practices and games are once a week on Saturdays. The season lasts for four weeks and games are played at the Sycamore Park Tee Ball Fields 6 & 7 (2525 E. Rosedale Fort Worth, TX 76105).

IMPORTANT: Coaches are required to have a completed volunteer profile, must pass a background check (including CFW employees), complete coaches development courses, as well as, a Sex Offender search. Also, coaches are required to be at practices and games.

We are looking for passionate people to join our Volunteer Sports Coach team and help make a difference in our community in a child's life!! Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming Summer 2026 Recreational Volleyball Season!

Help the Community Risk Reduction team spread fire safety awareness! We will need help with passing out/creating goodie bags as well as taking children through and resetting our fire obstacle course! If you're ready for a load of fun and ready to serve the community, come out and join our team for Mayfest! Although the hours of the festival are long, you are not required to stay the full time. Any amount of time you can give will be appreciated!

Together, we can give families the health information and resources they need throughout their pregnancies, and fund groundbreaking research to transform lives. We're also advocating for policies to keep moms and babies healthy and strong.

Ariat Boot Trot 5K/3K Fun Run. Participants will weave their way through one of the most historic western districts in the world, and upon completion, be met with a commemorative medal to celebrate their journey. The overall male, female and junior finisher in both the 5K and 3K will also receive a pair of Ariat boots, and other prizes.

Want to restore locally endangered Fort Worth Prairie habitat? Join us for volunteer workdays and natural history hikes at Oakmont Park.

Background: The City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department is partnering with the Fort Worth chapter of Native Prairies Association of Texas (FW-NPAT) to restore Fort Worth Prairie habitat on the Oakmont Park hill overlooking the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. FW-NPAT team leaders received funding from Constellation Energy via a grant to the North Central Texas chapter of Native Plant Society of Texas.

Event Setup, recruiting volunteers, admin duties

Volunteer with a youth tennis program for children ages 5–12, assisting coaches with drills, teaching basic tennis skills, and helping create a fun and supportive environment for young players to learn the game.

Leading group fitness classes such as dance, Zumba-style workouts, strength training, or other exercise sessions

Demonstrating proper form and technique to help participants exercise safely

Encouraging and motivating participants of different fitness levels

Planning simple, fun, and effective workout routines

Creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all participants

Communicating with staff about class needs, schedules, and equipment

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys fitness, has a passion for helping others stay active, and can bring energy and positivity to group exercise sessions.

The Center Hero helps care for and maintain our space so it remains welcoming, organized, and functional for everyone who visits. This volunteer supports light maintenance tasks, creative improvement projects, and general organization around the center.

Responsibilities may include:

Assisting with basic maintenance tasks and minor repairs

Helping with craft or DIY projects that improve the space

Organizing supplies, storage areas, and shared spaces

Supporting simple beautification or decorating projects

Assisting staff with small facility-related tasks as needed

Helping keep the center clean, safe, and welcoming for the community

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with their hands, staying organized, and contributing creatively to a shared community space.

The Fort Worth Code Blue Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program provides additional eyes and ears to the Fort Worth Police Department by training citizen volunteers to observe and report criminal activity. Trained COPS volunteers are assigned radios and given vehicle signs before patrolling their neighborhoods in their own vehicles, walking, or riding their bicycles. Additionally, COPS members participate in on-going training and activities such as assisting with training new police recruits at the police academy and working directly with police officers during special details.

Egg-stravaganza is a fun, fast-paced event designed for children of various age groups to hunt for eggs. Volunteers help by setting up designated hunt zones, guiding children to their assigned areas, monitoring for safety, restocking eggs if needed, and ensuring that every child has a positive and fair opportunity to participate.

Please monitor your assigned Site(s) monthly at the same time of day each month, for a one year commitment. For example: a possible monitoring schedule could be the first Sunday of each month at 10:00 am. Adherence to a consistent monitoring time is crucial because the physical and chemical parameters fluctuate over a 24-hour period. Monitoring takes approximately one to two hours per month per site *be sure to include your travel time in your total hours. 

Remember to check-out your assigned kit and return it within 3-4 days to ensure other citizen scientists also have access.

Your opportunity will vary in duties and assignments and limited opportunity working with kids registered in our programs. 

Highland Hills Community Center is seeking volunteers to assist with a community food distribution in partnership with Tarrant Area Food Bank. Volunteers will help bag food items and distribute them to members of the public in a welcoming and respectful manner. This opportunity is a great way to support local families, fight food insecurity, and make a direct impact in the community. Tasks may include assembling food bags, loading and unloading items, and handing out food to guests. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to help and a positive attitude.

Want to volunteer in your community? Our center volunteers are an integral part of our center and get to focus on helping with daily operations, After school, Summer Camp, and any other special programs or events we may be having.

The First Thursday of every month for Handley Meadowbrook, is our Senior Share food distribution program. We need your help to pack, distribute, and carry a free bag of groceries to all community members who come in.

You will be involved in a multitude of activities assisting with kids in our After School Program, light cleaning of the facility and some clerical duties and organizing supplies. Schedules are flexible throughout the week and on Saturdays.

If your offense includes theft, violence, sexual assault, or a weapon, you are not eligible for our program.  You must contact your probation officer or attorney for a new program.

You are not approved to start court-ordered community service until you receive an approval letter from the City of Fort Worth staff. You must have the approval letter to begin community service at any City of Fort Worth community center. It is your responsibility to contact the community centers and coordinate if and when they have availability for community service.

Community Service Key Points:

Look for fun, energetic individuals to teach or share your hobby of music, arts and crafts, sewing, etc... with our seniors and after schoolers. 

In need of individuals to help set up and or tear down tables and chairs for special events. Help with of cleaning  of center such as sweeping, mopping, and light restroom duties.

To engage with the After School Program in homework, arts and crafts, gym games, and help leaders clean up after.

Volunteers will play an important role in supporting our youth by, assisting with homework help, joining in on fun and engaging activities, and being a positive role model in helping us create a welcoming and supportive environment. 

Help setup, breakdown, oversee, and other various tasks associated with the special event

Engage with youth participants aged 5-13.  Duties may include gathering supplies, homework assistance, and leading activities such as games or arts and crafts.

Assist senior citizens with getting groceries to their cars.

Kiki's Club is an adult 18 & up Special Needs program, the group gets together and enjoys arts and crafts, cooking, karaoke, field trips, and many more exciting activities. 

Volunteers will assist as needed with After School Program. Duties may include gathering supplies, homework assistance, and leading an activity such as arts and crafts.

We are looking for volunteers to help with our FW @ 6 late night program. We our looking for individuals  who are interested in working with our young adults  with activities  such as (Cooking class, LifeSkill class, literacy, financial literacy, business classes 

The School Green Teams program focuses on teaching students the importance of sustainability and taking care of the environment. A team is made up of someone 18 years or older and at least one student. The team will compete with other School Green Teams across Fort Worth for the school year by completing activities from an activity page provided by the KFWB team. Each activity is worth points and the team with the most points at the end of the school year wins a prize. Teams can submit their progress on the School Green Teams webpage to accumulate points.
