Who We Are
The purpose of the Law Enforcement Explorer Program is to educate and involve the youth
in police operations, interest them in law enforcement careers, and provide a positive interaction with law enforcement. This involvement develops knowledge of police procedures and establishes an awareness of the complexities of police service.
The primary objective of the Law Enforcement Explorer Program is to further the youth
Explorer's education, encourage the Explorer's participation in a rewarding and productive activity, and prepare the Explorers for future roles as leaders in the community and future law enforcement officers.
What We Do
ACTIVITIES
Regular meetings are employed to teach Explorers about the criminal justice system, the laws, and the police department. Skills learned in these sessions are applied throughout the year at regional, state, and national competitions. Explorers achieving the appropriate certification may enter the ride-out program where they participate as an observer during the entire shift with a patrol officer. Explorers are incorporated into activities such as, but not limited to, crime prevention, radio procedures, and community service and training events under the supervision of department personnel.
These opportunities clearly demonstrate that Exploring is much more than a superficial orientation to law enforcement.
Although most activities of Exploring participants are of an educational nature, social activities are included and recommended to promote fellowship within the program. Participants are exposed to more than field operations, they learn about people and themselves as well by participating in the programs and activities provided.
