The P.A.W.S. Academy Training Program provides a structured framework for veterans and service members to develop and apply skills in socialization, training, and exercise to enhance the well-being of shelter animals and prepare them for adoption. Participants will be assigned a specific dog to train, focusing on obedience, confidence-building, and behavior shaping. Through hands-on training, veterans learn structured guidance and communication techniques, reinforcing foundational skills that increase a dog's adoptability.
By leveraging their inherent discipline and commitment, veterans and service members play a crucial role in preparing dogs to pass a training assessment, ensuring they leave the program well-mannered and ready for their future homes. This experience also offers significant personal benefits, including stress reduction, improved mood, and a therapeutic outlet for those managing PTSD or other emotional challenges. Engaging in this impactful work allows veterans to continue serving their community while fostering a powerful bond with the animals they help.
