Urgent Pet Advocate – Be the Voice for Our Most At-Risk Shelter Pets

Help increase visibility and boost adoption chances for pets who need immediate attention through photos, behavior updates, and extra care.

Step into one of the most impactful volunteer roles at FWACC. As an Urgent Pet Advocate, you’ll champion shelter pets who need immediate attention to boost their chances of adoption or rescue. These animals are often long-stay residents, facing kennel stress, or have urgent medical or behavioral needs. Your help can mean the difference between waiting in a kennel and finding a loving home.

Why This Role Matters
Animals on the urgent list can be overlooked in a busy shelter environment. By providing timely, accurate behavior updates, capturing quality photos, and sharing each pet’s unique personality, you help bring these deserving animals into the spotlight. Your efforts support both staff and the public in connecting with these pets and ultimately saving lives.

Responsibilities Include:

• Check in with the Volunteer Coordinator and retrieve the printed urgent animal list

• Review kennel stickers and information before interacting with each animal

• Safely take approved animals to volunteer play yards for extra socialization

• Document detailed behavior observations during visits

• Capture fresh photos to enhance adoption and rescue profiles

• Submit notes and photos via QR code to support internal networking

• Follow all safety protocols; only handle animals approved for volunteer interaction

• Do not handle Red Sticker animals

• Log your volunteer hours and communicate any concerns to shelter staff
