Description

Transport Crew Volunteer – Be the Bridge to a Better Future
Help shelter pets take their final step toward forever — and their first ride to freedom.

Every journey begins with a helping hand. As a Transport Crew Volunteer, you’ll support the behind-the-scenes magic that moves animals from Fort Worth to rescue partners across the country. Over the course of a three-day process, you'll help prepare dogs and cats for their life-changing trip — providing care, comfort, and crucial support to our staff and fosters. Whether you’re walking dogs, cleaning kennels, or loading crates for takeoff, your impact is immediate, powerful, and unforgettable.

Who We’re Looking For
This role is ideal for volunteers who:

  • Are team players with flexible, can-do attitudes

  • Feel confident handling animals in a busy, sometimes fast-paced environment

  • Are comfortable with cleaning tasks and following detailed instructions

  • Want to be part of something bigger — helping animals find a second chance beyond city limits

  • Can volunteer for one or more of the three-day process shifts (especially mornings!)

Responsibilities Include

Day 1 – Foster Drop-Off & Medical Prep

  • Walking dogs to stretch their legs and reduce kennel stress

  • Spot cleaning kennels to maintain a clean, safe space

  • Supporting staff with general animal care and organization

Day 2 – Vet Day

  • Morning kennel cleaning before health checks begin

  • Walking dogs to keep them comfortable throughout the day
Helping hold animals (as needed) during vet exams and certificate processing
    Spot cleaning and restocking supplies

Day 3 – Transport Day!

  • Morning walking and kennel cleaning

  • Assisting with safe and calm loading of animals onto transport vehicles (ground or air)
Final cleanup: laundry, dishes, and prepping crates for the next transport

The Impact

Your role helps animals take their final step out of the shelter — and toward safety, love, and a home. Each transport saves lives by relieving local overcrowding and giving pets a second chance where resources are more available. You’re not just prepping animals — you’re launching them into their new life, one tail wag or soft meow at a time.

Volunteer duties, access and privileges are only valid for the duration of the assigned shift in which they have chosen on the on-line volunteer scheduling system. There is a 15-minute grace period before and after each shift so that the volunteer may prepare and/or end their volunteer assignments.
