Description

Laundry Assistant – Helping Keep Shelter Life Clean & Cozy

Be a behind-the-scenes hero — because clean blankets save lives, too.

Think laundry isn’t lifesaving? Think again. As a Laundry Assistant Volunteer, you’re not just folding towels — you’re helping prevent illness, support staff, and ensure every animal has something soft and clean to cuddle into. Your behind-the-scenes work helps our shelter shine — and helps pets feel cared for while they wait for homes.

Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for detail-oriented, task-focused volunteers who:

  • Enjoy keeping things organized, clean, and tidy

  • Are comfortable lifting light to moderate loads of laundry

  • Want to make a huge impact in a short amount of time

  • Can work independently or with a team

  • Understand the importance of cleanliness in an animal care environment

Responsibilities

  • Check in with staff to see if laundry or dishes need to be collected from animal pods

  • Wash, dry, and fold linens (blankets, towels, etc.) following staff instructions

  • Return clean linens to the proper storage areas or directly to kennel pods

  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization of laundry and dish areas

  • Follow shelter safety and sanitization protocols to prevent spread of illness

 The Impact
It may not be glamorous, but it’s absolutely essential. By ensuring every dog and cat has a clean blanket and sanitized toy, you help:

  • Reduce the risk of disease and cross-contamination

  • Provide a more comforting and dignified space for shelter pets

  • Lighten the workload for staff so they can focus on urgent animal needs

  • Maintain the overall health and morale of the entire shelter

Your work behind the scenes keeps our shelter running — and keeps our pets healthier, happier, and more adoptable.

What you need to get started:

Volunteer duties, access and privileges are only valid for the duration of the assigned shift in which they have chosen on the on-line volunteer scheduling system. There is a 15-minute grace period before and after each shift so that the volunteer may prepare and/or end their volunteer assignments.
